Today marks Exactly two years where the spirit of togetherness and patriotism engulfed my entire community where we came together to spread portions of laterites that has been donated by Mr. Charles and the Global Evangelical Church to fix the portions of the depleted roads at the Global church on the St. Luke street that has been dilapidated for far too long whereby causing discomforts to motorist and residents.
On 21st September 2021, the spirit of Ubuntu was well demonstrated among my community folks as we joined hand in hand in unison and patriotism to spread our sand on the roads, as Ubuntu connotes ‘’I AM JUST BECAUSE WE ARE “. We demonstrated accordingly On that day the spirit of love, joy, togetherness were gallantly show case as both young and old, thick or small and even women came out to join their husbands and children to fetch portions of laterites into their trays and buckets to spread on the road.
That faithful day was a remarkable Day to resonate the birth of great pan Africanist, who demonstrated so much love and commitment in building our motherland Ghana ( OSAAGYEFO DR. KWAME NKRUMAH)
as a community.We came together to undertake collective actions and finding lasting solutions in solving them.
The communal labour exercise came about after pragmatic and holistic steps were taken to address the cry and discomforts that residents were going through, the state of our community roads were very terrible and this led to exorbitant charges by drivers, unwillingness of drivers to ply the roads, frequent visits to repair shops by our drivers and so Many unpleasant spectacles that we were exposed to especially in times of rains. This very roads serves as the only access roads to the two biggest private hospitals in Ashaiman namely the mother of God hospital and the Trinity Community Hospital.
It also serves as alternative routes to other adjoining communities especially when there is heavy traffic on the main road.
In the foregoing and tackling the situation, stakeholders consultative meeting were held between Executives of the Landlords associations, Leaders of the religious groups (churches and mosques), Heads of Academic institutions, Opinion leaders and Technocrats of the Zone 2 Emaohie community.
After deliberations and Considerations, invitations were extended to the entire community for a community forum. At the forum the community expressed urgent need to give our community the needed facelift that deserves at the end of the forum, measures were taken to solve our problems and some were construction and repairs of broken gutters to allow waste waters and rains pass through since this was a major cause of erosions on our roads ,buying of laterites to fill where is unmotorable, fixing of pipes to divert running gutters on the road, street lights fixing, security matters and so many more.
Soliciting for funds and support was also a major challenge in achieving our set goals so we decided to lobby the Municipal Assembly and other stake holders for assistance, also other measures was to reached out to schools, churches, mosque and house to house for mobilization.
A campaign team was readily launched with executives to steer the the affairs of the team and a name was also coined “THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROJECT”.
The team was poised for action and we immediately embarked on a sensitization campaign through P.A Systems, programs, churches, float on tracks and even radio interviews.
The campaign was well received by the community folks and donations started pouring in, we then used the ones gathered to repair gutters on the main roads and eventually bought laterites to fill the roads and this was followed by eventually grading exercise by a hired grader. Thanks to the resurrection power church and some astute individuals in the community who gave helping hands in achieving that result.
The next major project were donated by the Emaohie landlord association who also added their weight to the project by supplying 20 trips of laterites to the community, it was followed by a little exercise to launch the project and this attracted media houses like Utv, Angel broadcasting network, Atinka media, original tv and FM and Citi News, the media went a long way to expose the deplorable plight and also called for help and support for the community, invitations were extended to the member of parliament for Ashaiman constituency Hon.Enerst Henry Norbey and he honored his invitation by sending delegations to attend the ceremony and this led him to promise of 10 trips of laterite by the M.P, who later diligently honored his promise and delivered the 10 trips.
The directorate of Urban roads also saw our efforts and paid a working visit to inspect our works and were overwhelmed by our sacrifices, we were making in the community to see it been improved, he also promised to augment our efforts by providing any help necessary. A team was later dispatched to inspect our roads and notify where they could grade and supply laterites.
They eventually released their grader, roller and water tanks to do a grading and spot improvement of a 3.2 kilometer roads namely ( school junction police station road ), (AshaimanTechnical institute/ Methodist road ), Kabutey street ( zenu school junction to transformer /Bishop Borngreat’s junction ), the Peter Anum street ( Transformer/Borngreat to Ex Black stars and Hearts of Oak player’s house DAN QUAYE), and DAN QUAYE Street to St. Luke street ( The Roman catholic church ). This exercise really boosted the confidence of the people in the Assembly.
This exercise motivated many organizations and religious denominations to also bring their support donations poured in from the churches, mosque, schools and benevolence in the community and their support went a long way to see the transformation that we are enjoying now. Their support came in from cash, laterites, logistics, ideas materials, guidance, prayers and more, so at this juncture it is very befitting to give acknowledgement to the he Resurrection power and new generational church, the church of Pentecost (Dam site), Global Evangelical Church, Christ Apostolic church international, the Assemblies of God Church, St. Luke Catholic church, Lord’s Pentecostal Church, Ebenezer Methodist Church ( Tsuii Bleo), Apostolic Revival ministries ( Tsui Bleo ), Heavens Life Global ministries ( Bishop Born Great Aboagye) Best start Academy, Ammet Academy, Kaapt. American International School, Floating Crystals, Wellstar Community Clinic and many more the space will not permit me to write

I spearheaded and we took charge of fixing our own basic problems like repairs and fixing of new street lights, buying waste pipes to fix on our main roads to control our drains, coming together to construct gutters at places where necessary.
Sometimes the materials for such projects are donated by individuals who have the community at heart.
We have come a long way and achieved lot through dedicated selfless sacrifices we made towards seeing the wellbeing of my community It was through perseverance, dedication and selfless sacrifices that I made to get this far. 2 years of continuous volunteerism and true leadership in dedicating my entire life to serve people and leading and demonstrating exemplarily by involving myself in everything.
Through this project, market women now transport their wares from the market to their houses and stores with ease, drivers who complain bitterly now sing songs of praises, Daavi the Gogbe seller no longer fight with drivers for exorbitant charges, kesewaa now buys from Ashaiman markets and stock her shop without complains, Zoom Lion and waste collection tanks no longer give flimsy excuse for delay of not picking our waste. The mechanics at the roman junction have been asking Elder Yeboah why he has not been frequenting their shops any longer, sweetie can now order for her Uber without the driving telling her ‘‘ MO KWAN NO ENY3 NTI MENBA“, Auntie Gladys “Maame Nurse” and Mama Pat the drug store owner have the comfort of attending to their sick patients with comfort. the Okada riders at my junction cannot hide their joy anytime they see me and the most palatable and sweetable of them all is ‘’HAJIA’’ now gives me free indomie anytime I visit her indomie joint ( Hahaha!!! Bicycle de3 3so nfaso aa ni free ) and not to talk of the free lift I enjoy from drivers any time they see me.
These words of Martin luther king jnr. Always inspired me and I quote “ If I can not do great things then I can do little things in greater ways. I was challenged by this words and my force of will to alleviate my people from the suffering that they were going through and with that very determination I made two years ago the joy and contemptment of the people have all turned into singspiration for my hardwork. A natural love from them is giving me more zeal into transforming Ashaiman a marginalized community into Dubai a centre of world attraction!!! ( please don’t laugh a journey of a thousand mile begins with a step )
I ve been guarded by my natural impulse to touch humanity and my quest to be an agent of change and a catalyst for development remains unchanged.
Ashaiman is a marginalized society where basic amenities are deprived as compared to our neighboring sisters like TEMA and kpone katamanso, revenue collections are not sufficient to propel the needed development that we need. Industries,Firms Government’s super projects, greater opportunities are all housed in our sister communities while we rather provide the work force to their industries, because of this, there is the urgent need for us to put ourselves together to fix basic problems that we are confronted with,so I believe with support and help that comes our way we will be able to achieve more and build the necessary community that we desire.
I therefore use this opportunity to solicit for help and support from Non-Governmental Organizations, Foundations, Help and support units across the country and the world, Philantropists, our Municipal Assembly, think thanks, benevolence and many more. We deserve better we need skills and career opportunities, jobs for the people, scholarship opportunities, Dual carriage and Asphaltic Roads, grants and fundings to undertake our developmental projects.
