George Ricketts-Hagan, the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, expressed concerns about the government’s 2024 budget, alleging that GH¢11 billion in taxes is concealed within it.
According to him, the Minority caucus in Parliament will unveil these concealed taxes in the coming days.
Ken Ofori-Atta, the Finance Minister, presented the 2024 budget to Parliament, outlining eight tax breaks the government plans to implement in the following year.
Ricketts-Hagan urged caution, advising Ghanaians not to celebrate the budget content as he believes it hides significant tax burdens.
“We know that there’s GH¢11 billion in taxes [in the budget], but it is hidden, so we will unravel it… In a couple of days, we will unwrap it and show where they have been hidden.
“…They have been disguised, and that was the whole idea… So we have to open it up,” he said on Wednesday, November 16, 2023.
