New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate hopeful for the Bantama Constituency, Ralph Kwame Opoku Agyapong has highlighted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s declining popularity.
Kennedy Agyapong, the brother of the Assin Central Member of Parliament, claims that if President Akufo-Addo were to run for office in the Bantama Constituency, he would be lucky to receive 30% of the vote.
Ralph Agyapong made the statement in response to the support given to Francis Asenso Boakye, the incumbent NPP MP for Bantama, in his bid for reelection.
President Akufo-Addo complimented his former deputy Chief of Staff during a speech earlier this week at a ceremony honoring the MP’s construction of a library in the constituency. He also asked Bantama voters to support him in the party’s upcoming primaries and general election.
But Ralph Agyapong, who has pledged to topple the president’s darling kid, viewed Nana Addo’s statement as a mistake in response to the president’s endorsement in the Akoma FM interview.
“You clearly referred to 2016 but I am saying that if he (Nana Addo) comes again today he will not make 30% and I am telling you.
“That is the reality, I was in Bantama when Nana Addo came for the one-week funeral of Honourable Cecilia Dapaah’s mother, it felt like no one was there. In fact, he came with the Vice President but it felt like no one had come.
“It is even a wrong calculation to bring the president to Bantama at this time to support you,” he stated.
“He has come to campaign against me so I have every right to campaign against him. He will not get 30%,” he stated during an interview on Kumsasi-based Akoma FM on Friday, November 17, 2023.
